Hi Joanna.

I am Lishia, we do not know each other. I was just looking for someone studying in UOW because I'll be going over for the coming Spring intake, sorta like a student exchange program, but I'll be studying there for one semester.

I just need someone who can tell me what to wear, basically the fundamentals about student life there. I'll be staying at the hostel there, but I do not know where =/ Uhm, so if you're okay being my point of referral, do let me know where you are comfortable corresponding with me: email/msn/your blog/etc.

If you're not okay with me asking you questions, it's okay too. I'll just move on and find someone else, but let me know too okay?

Thanks for your time in reading this, you're in the midst of finals right? =) All the best =)

Sincerely,
Lishia

Hie Lishia,

Its great to hear that you are coming to UOW for exchange, I felt really sad because we can't meet up by then because I am going to Germany for exchange!

Hmm, by the time you come is probably gonna be winter, so appropriate winter clothing should be alright. Its not very cold here if you are under the sun, but well sometimes the wind kills. So i would recommend you to bring along long sleeve clothes,jackets/coats, boots, but sometimes you can get pretty nice and cheap stuffs here. (Well I buy most of my clothes here and dumped all those that I bought in my luggage!) So I suggest if you have a lil bit of budget you can shop around for winter clothings here. The weather will still be a bit cool during spring, as long as there is wind, its chilling. Suggest t shirts with jackets that time. Bring comfortable shoes, australia is all about walking. Summer starts during november, the sun is really hot, but once you are under a shade, you will feel the cool breeze that makes you shiver! and the sun is really strong here, sunblock is a must!

I am living in Campus East, which is the farthest campus from uni, but we have campus shuttle and free bus so its not a problem. All other campus are really near to uni, you can either catch a bus or walk (15mins). And it depends if you are staying in catered or self catered. (Well I don't really like the catered food here)You can get access to the mall in the town pretty easily by the free bus, and there are some Asian stores that sell asian food and a few Asian restaurants too. The town is pretty small, but nearby there are lotsa nice tourist spots that you should visit.

Don't try to bring bulky electronic stuffs like kettle and stuffs if you don't really have space in your luggage, you can buy them in the Reject Store in the mall with very cheap price(like 10 bucks for a kettle). If you are bring over your own bed sheets, I would suggest you buy Super single ones( the mattress here is really thick) and buy those with quilt cover(buy a quilt in the reject store and you can just wash the cover everytime). Well basically I would suggest newcomers to get these stuffs in the reject store when they come ( kettle, quilt, pillow-you will need 2; the pillow here is really soft, laundry basket). And note, THERE IS NO BOLSTER IN AUSTRALIA! haha, so if you are that kind of person that can't sleep without a bolster i suggest you bring your own!

As I said you can buy groceries from the asian stores, they have instant noodles and stuffs, and you can also go to Woolworths which is a supermarket here (like Giant or Tesco) to get fresh meat, vegies and junk food =) You will know what things you should buy at the asian store and what you should buy in woolies after a few visits =).

Life here is pretty boring, shops closes at 5pm except thursday which is the shopping night. You can go to Sydney by train, which normally takes 1.5 hours. More shops and food in Sydney, there is a mamak stall too!

Hmm...guess thats about all for now, feel free to ask me any more questions..Anyway a warm welcome to wollongong =)

Wow Joanna =) Thanks for the long description that is very helpful =D I thought you were just going to give like a few lines as a reply, haha =D I think I do have more questions but kinda stuck now with so much in my brain now so I'll drop by for questions again when I do have things I want to find out.

Thanks for the warm welcome (by answering my queries =)) although I won't be able to see you when I go there =(

Sincerely,
Lishia
